The Lord will bless you : Even through what little you have
Greetings to all my dear sisters in Christ in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus. I have great pleasure in reaching out to you again through this column.
We truly believe from the bottom of our heart that our dear Lord Jesus is capable of fulfilling all our needs at all times. But there are situations of darkness and misery which may force us to question this faith ! God provides His help through His select people. The Lord is also mighty enough to lift you from the bottom and redeem you , even from the little that is left with you in times of misery.
We read about such a lady in II Kings 4 :1 – 7
As we read this passage , we come across a widow who is in great misery : debt ridden and abject poverty ; driven to her tethered end of loosing her sons in slavery to her creditors ! But she put her faith in the Lord and asked the man of God, Elisha to help her.
The response of the Prophet to her pleadings was unexpected :
And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
( II Kings 4 : 2 )
To this lady who has lost everything worth in her life including her husband, Elisha was asking what she was having at her home ? Probably she wanted to reply that she was left only with her chains of debts and tears rolling from her eyes. But this poor lady said :
“And she said, Thine handmaid hath not anything in the house, save a pot of oil.”
( II Kings 4 : 2 )
Who would have thought that this small jar of olive oil is going to multiply enough to redeem her from all her debts and also to support her family for the rest of their life ! Yes. Moments later her situation changed when she obeyed the prophet. Somuch joy overflowing in her house and no more tears of misery and helplessness.
Yes, my dear sisters, are you in a situation of darkness ? At the very end of point of no return ? Do not fear ! Our dear Lord Jesus is mighty enough to reverse the tide and lift you from distress and misery. Even with what little you are having with you ! Reach out to Him in faith.
This lady never questioned the Prophet. She didn’t hesitate to obey Him dutifully. She never hesitated either to borrow large number of empty vessels from her neighbours or wondered how this little jar of oil is going to fill all of them ! Implicit obedience. And the Lord blessed her.
“ And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.”
( II Kings 4 : 6-7 )
In a situation of darkness,
- Cry unto the Lord ( Exodus 2 : 23 )
- With unfettered faith, obey Him. (II Kings 4 : 5 )
The Lord is mighty enough to lift you and redeem you from any situation. Even through only what little is left out with you.
May the Lord bless you all.
Prayer :
Dear Lord ,
We praise You and thank You. Please give us the strength to have unfettered faith in You and to always obey You.
Even in times of hopelessness and misery.
Because, You are our Lord and our Redeemer. Our only hope.
We ask in in Jesus name.
Amen.
