Strategy Is Prophecy With Its Sleeves Rolled Up – October 2026

October 4, 2026

October 2026 on the Open Doors series

All year we’ve been meditating on open doors, and here’s something that shifted my thinking: a door opens spiritually the moment God declares the promise, not when the promise shows up in the natural world. Every open door you can see is only the outcome of a word that was spoken in heaven first. The promise is the root, and the doors are the fruit.

But if the promise alone were enough, nobody would ever get stuck.

A promise is not a plan

A senior man of God once said something that has stayed with me: you are only as powerful as the strategy that backs you, not just the prophecy that backs you.

Prophecy tells you where you’re going. Strategy tells you how to get there, and just as importantly, what not to do on the way. Knowing what to skip saves you years, money, and a few embarrassing chapters. That’s why being strategic is being prophetic. You’re hearing the how from the same God who gave you the what.

Same promise, wildly different playbooks

Abraham and Joshua carried essentially the same promise: this land is yours. Look at how differently it played out.

Abraham walked the land, built altars, dug wells, and made peace treaties with the local kings. Joshua marched around Jericho in silence for six days and then took the land city by city.

Now imagine swapping them. Joshua shows up at Jericho with a picnic basket and a peace treaty. Abraham sees a wall and starts a military campaign. Both would have been a disaster, not because the strategies were bad, but because God wasn’t in them for that season. Same promise, different generation, different instructions.

Same gospel, different strategies

Does this actually show up in church history? Absolutely. Every one of these people preached the same gospel, and God led each of them differently:

  • Apostle Peter proclaimed the truth to Jerusalem’s masses, James remained behind to shepherd the foundational fellowship, Barnabas dedicated himself to encouraging believers, and Apostle Paul established works in unreached territories, planted churches in strategic cities, often starting in the synagogue, working a trade to fund himself, and raising local leaders before moving on.
  • Rex Humbard took the pulpit to the living room and pioneered weekly gospel television when many in the church were still suspicious of the screen.
  • Oral Roberts went from tent healing crusades to television specials and then built a university.
  • Billy Graham was the stadium evangelist, with a clear gospel message, an altar call, and a partnership with local churches so new believers were followed up.
  • Benny Hinn ran large arena miracle crusades alongside daily television, with a heavy emphasis on the presence of the Holy Spirit.
  • Reinhard Bonnke took the gospel to Africa on a scale few had seen, with huge open-field crusades and giant tents where crowds numbered in the hundreds of thousands, built on a God-given conviction that Africa would be saved.
  • Why don’t you imagine your name next in the list here – and ponder on what strategy the Lord is calling you to? Big or small – it is unique and God trusts you my friend – take steps towards your unique destiny today. The Lord of hosts is counting on you.

Just remember that none of them copied another’s playbook, and none of them stopped preaching Jesus. The message never changed, but the strategy did.

God sees the whole board

God sees what we can’t: the spiritual atmosphere of a nation, the heart condition of its people, the strength of the Body of Christ in that place, and what has been tried before. From above, He designs a strategic plan for that nation, that city, and that person, but only if we listen.

So what do we do with this?

  1. Learn from previous generations. Study the strategies that worked, honour them, and keep them in your toolbox.
  2. Hear from God before you copy. It’s fine to follow someone’s strategy, but always ask Him first. Even the best strategy, if God isn’t leading it, ends in failure.
  3. Ask for your own. If you’re pioneering something, why would you not seek a fresh download from heaven?

So pray, seek, and knock. Ask the Lord for a personal strategy for your education, your marriage, your career, your ministry, your children, and every part of the destiny He has uniquely prepared for you. He’s not hiding it, and He loves to answer.

Dear Holy Spirit,

Please download in our spirit fresh revelations from the heart of the Father. Make His will known to us in all its clarity and fill us with every grace we need to complete our destiny and calling. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
