First Love…

“…having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.” John 13:1

Greetings to you all in the matchless name of Jesus Christ!

I’m really privileged to share a story about two people today – the first being, YOU and the other GOD!

I’m not sure of what comes to our minds when we hear the term – First Love!

Probably, for a mother with her first child it would be the first smile the new born smiles at her and only to her! Or for a kid who is getting her first puppy which grows up to love her unconditionally no matter what! Or the little kid at school who lost his parents, has this one teacher who truly encourages him when all the others have given upon him!

To every single soul in this world the person who touches them deeply and values them as they are amidst their shortcomings invariably and unknowingly takes the place of a true love in their heart. And what about the first among them?

I’m reminded of a story I was taught in school.

The story of a young couple who loved each other earnestly and eventually got married. The story was titled “The Christmas Gift!” The story starts by describing that the young couple have a very simple life due to their meagre earning. Although poor both of them had something which they valued as their most prized possession – the husband had a golden watch which his father had given him which he wore with so much pride every day and the wife, her beautiful long hair like a cascade touching the floor.

And soon their first Christmas together after being wedded was approaching. The wife had a deep longing to buy her husband some gift that he would cherish for life! But she stood their looking out the apartment window with noting but few pennies in her hand with which she could purchase nothing. Regardless, determined to raise the money somehow, she went in search of the perfect gift! Shop after shop, not satisfied with anything, she was about to leave the last one dejected when something flashed in the corner of her eye! Lo and behold, there it hung, glistening, a platinum chain that would be perfect for her husband’s watch! As she greedily took the chain in her hand, she realized that she will have to earn for another few years to get the money needed to purchase it! Let down and standing there in tears all of a sudden, a thought crossed her mind!

With no second thoughts she walked by to the nearest parlour to sell her most prized possession – her beautiful, long hair! She knew nothing else would fetch her the sum needed in such a short time! After having sold her hair for the money she needed she went and bought the gift!

Evening came and it was time for her husband to return back from work! She prepared the dinner he best liked and was anxious to know what his reaction would be to her new look. Soon after, she heard her husband’s footsteps and all of a sudden became nervous. The husband having coming in seemed indifferent to his wife’s new look with all the beautiful hair gone! The wife thought that he didn’t after all care much about her beautiful long hair! In a moment her thoughts reverted as she saw the strangest expression cross her husband’s face!

He after a few seconds quietly took something out of his pocket and placed it on the table. Lo and behold it was the very beautiful sea shell clips that his wife had longed for to put on her beautiful hair! She would often stop by the shops and look at them with longing eyes but not enough money to buy! And here they were today, only she had lost her long beauty.

With tears she hugged her husband and reassured him that her hair would grow soon and presented him proudly with the beautiful gift she had got for him. Squealing with excitement she wanted her husband to wear the platinum chain on his beautiful, golden precious watch!

The husband who was smiling all along when she proudly showed him the platinum chain said, “Dear, I sold my watch to get you the clips!”

From school this story has touched me a great deal and I’ve often wondered how two people completely unaware of each other’s thoughts, but still exactly had the same for each other and had the courage to sacrifice their most prized possessions so they could get each other, what they valued the most to be even better!

God has many characters to Him and there are few times you can relate to Him as in the above story! Times when you wanted to do something precious for Jesus and make him smile and simultaneously, He would have been thinking and working to make you happy instead!

But something unique about God’s love that transcends human love is that – He knows your heart.

God being God sometimes better understands the language of your heart than your verbal talk with Him. And what more, until He knows that you are going to be happy with what He says / does / has planned for you, He never does reveal His heart. He sits there patiently listening to all your desires while crushing His own until you have the love to tell Him that what His heart has is the best, that it is perfect!

What a beautiful God we serve!

Why talk at all about all this? – Cause the human heart has one speciality, to love only one person with all of who we are.

So many people/ things may share your love, but there will be only person/thing that strikes you the best in whom/ which you would like to invest all of you really are!

And the best Person we can offer that First Love to, is GOD. He deserves it. And the reason why He does can never be explained by human words but can be revealed as a beautiful feeling in the depth of your soul by the Holy Spirit.

Anyone who tries to spend their whole life to find out why they love God will never be able to find a reason. It is a mystery sealed between the Creator and His Creation. We are His creation. YOU are His creation.

Still today God Almighty says, “IAM WHO IAM” but what is your response to Him?

He is still waiting for you.

Once the heart is defiled with someone / something else, it is then difficult to revert back to the First Love which you have already given away!

Trust me whoever / whatever, they / it isn’t worth it!

The only Person who deserves your first love – is Him!

If you’ve never experienced what I’ve written or have lost it, then it’s high time to ask the Holy Spirit to touch you and explain in the depths of your soul, “why?’”

Jesus loves you. He didn’t give upon you, so please- you don’t give upon Him.

I hope you find your First Love.

With prayers.
