Hosting God’s Presence – Foundation of a fruitful family (Nov 2025 Promise & Challenge)
“Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you,” declares the LORD. – Zechariah 2:10
From the very beginning, God’s greatest desire has been to dwell among His people.
The story of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, reveals one continuous theme: God longs not merely to visit us, but to live among us: in our midst, in our hearts, and even in our homes.
Eden: God’s Presence in the Beginning
In the Garden of Eden, humans’ first home, God walked with man in perfect fellowship (Genesis 3:8). It was not simply a garden of beauty, but a sanctuary of presence.
The Wilderness: God in the Midst of His People
When Israel journeyed through the wilderness, God reaffirmed His longing to be at the centre of His people’s lives.
“Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.” — Exodus 25:8
He instructed that His tabernacle be placed in the midst of the camp, surrounded by the tribes — a visible sign that His presence was central to their identity and purpose.
“For the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you.” — Deuteronomy 23:14
But when the people sinned and rebelled, Moses took the tent of meeting and pitched it outside the camp (Exodus 33:7). God did not command this; it was the Prophet Moses who did it.
Generations later, when David longed to build a house for God, the Lord reminded him:
“I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving from place to place with a tent as My dwelling.” — 2 Samuel 7:6
What a picture of an unlimited love – the eternal God, content to move with His people wherever they went.
The Prophets: God’s Promise to Dwell Among Us
Through the prophets, God renewed His covenant desire:
“My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” — Ezekiel 37:27
“Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you,” declares the LORD. — Zechariah 2:10
God’s plan was never merely to reign from heaven, but to dwell among His people on earth.
The New Covenant: God Dwelling Within
Then came the fullness of time.
“The Word became flesh and dwelt (tabernacled) among us.” — John 1:14
Through Jesus Christ, God’s presence took on human form and walked among us. But His plan went even further, not only to dwell with us, but within us.
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit?” — 1 Corinthians 6:19
“He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” — 1 Corinthians 6:17
The presence that once filled a garden, then a tent, then a temple, now abides in human hearts through the Holy Spirit.
The Eternal Fulfilment: God Dwelling with Man Forever
God’s desire expressed in the book the revelation brings the story full circle:
“Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them.” — Revelation 21:3
Among all the wonders of creation: angels, heavenly hosts, and countless creations, God chooses to dwell with mankind (the human race).
When Gabriel appeared to Mary, he announced heaven’s favour upon the human race (Luke 1:28). The angels must have looked on in awe because they were witnessing the Almighty choosing to dwell among fallen, fragile humanity.
A Family that Hosts His Presence
Today, this same God still seeks a dwelling, not in temples made with hands, but in hearts and homes willing to welcome Him.
Can our families become places where God is pleased to dwell? Not just occasionally visited, but continually hosted?
Can our homes become sanctuaries where His presence rests at the centre, not in the corners or outer courts?
When a family hosts the presence of God, something tangible changes. Peace fills the atmosphere. Love flows naturally. Even those who do not know the Lord can sense there is something different — the very presence of Jesus.
A Gentle Challenge
Every Christian family is called to bear this fruit: the fruit of hosting His presence.
Let us not settle for a faith that visits God on Sundays, but invite Him to dwell in our midst every day.
“Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you,” declares the LORD. – Zechariah 2:10
May this be a primary and foundational fruit of every family: to host the presence of God in our midst.
