December Month Message – Turning to Jesus
Greetings to everyone in the precious name of Lord Jesus Christ who was and is and is to come.
December, the month of cheer, is largely said to be the busiest month in the church calendar. From organising various programmes to arranging fellowships in preparation for the New year, the hustle and bustle is never-ending. It’s in this fellowship that we join together and share the love of God and not drift away from each other.
In Exodus 19, the Israelites on the way from Egypt were camped at the foot of Mt Sinai. God was performing mighty miracles in their midst from getting them out of Egypt to providing and guiding them through the wilderness. It was at this juncture that God called Moses onto the mountain top to give him the ten commandments and several other laws. But at the foot of the mountain, the Israelites found themselves alone and leaderless. They turned to idolatry, thereby invoking the wrath of God on themselves.
In John 2, Jesus and his family attend a wedding at Cana. It’s a joyous occasion when the organisers find themselves in an awkward situation when they had run out of wine. Here Mary turned to Jesus, who until now hadn’t performed any miracles. But the conviction and faith she had on Jesus, opened ways for the blessing on that occasion marking Jesus’ first miracle thus quenching the physical needs of everyone present and most importantly the spiritual need of Mary.
By God’s grace we, unlike the Israelites at Mt Sinai, have a clear knowledge of God the Father, Jesus the Son and Holy Spirit our Guide and Counsel. Let us be wary of whom we turn to when we are lost and alone or desperately looking out for something.
David in Psalms 23 after addressing all the calm and hard times finishes of the Psalms with the following line –
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
May God give us his grace to be rooted in Him.
God bless you
