LET JOY ABOUND

August 12, 2016

Dear Sisters in Christ,

A famous preacher once said, “Blessing is the ability to withstand adverse situations and not prosperity as most of us presume it to be“.

Is it possible to be happy in adversity? It may appear to be a ridiculous proposition to ask somebody to be joyful in spirit when the whole world is crashing on her. It may be sickness poverty or any other adversity.

The Holy Bible says, “Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall the fruit be in the wines: labour of the olive shall fail, and the field shall not yield meat, the flock shall be cut off from the fold, there shall be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD. I will joy in the GOD of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3:17, 18)

There was a woman called “Hannah”. She had no child. She was in deep distress and always cried and was mocked at, had self pity and did not even have the proper food. However, the same woman after making her humble submission to the LORD to bless her family life, it is said, “she (Hannah) went her way and did eat and her countenance was no more sad” (1 Samuel 1:18). At that point of time she had no prophecy or a firm word from God regarding this other than the counseling and blessing given by Eli. But she withstood in her faith with joy and we had the great Prophet Samuel.

Many times, we feel that we are at the end of the world. May be we are penniless. May be the doctors have abandoned us. May be we see only chaos around us. May be the last straw we are holding is also crashing and we begin to sink to fathomless deep. May be we are reduced to the level of orphans, refugees, nomads in strange lands being only mocked by our own friends, colleagues and neighbors at our pitiable state and left without any hope.

My dear sister, always remember “It only pleases the LORD to bless Israel” (Numbers 24: 1)

Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now the vine and fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit. From this day on I will bless you (Haggai 2: 19)

He is almighty God. Jesus, our Saviour and Redeemer. He can turn any curse into a blessing. He can turn any calamity into prosperity. “Has He said, and shall He not do it? Has He spoken, and shall He not make it good?” (Numbers 23: 19)

He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself (Hebrews 6: 18)

Prayer

Our dear Father, we submit ourselves in prayer to You. We rededicate ourselves and we shall only walk in Your ways, with You and as Your children. We shall be joyful in everything and we shall rejoice in the LORD forever. In Jesus name, amen.
