The Blood of Jesus
Dears in Christ, greetings to you in His name, may you be blessed with good health and peace in this new month.
Today, I would like to bring to your attention on the blood of Jesus.
1 John 1:7 states that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sins. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.” Let’s take a moment for the meaning of this simple and powerful statement to sink in. The blood purifies us from all sins! This does not talk about forgiveness of sins. But of purifying us. The verse 9, reiterates the statement by adding that His blood purifies us from all unrighteousness. Our inmost nature has been cleansed. It is possible to live a holy life because our sins are forgiven and we have the power to overcome the evil one.
Going a bit deeper into this, let us look to the book of Hebrews. Here we have an allusion to the story of Cain and Abel. Abel offers a sacrifice to God with faith and it gets accepted, Cain on the other hand offers a sacrifice which is not looked favourably in the eyes of God. So Cain kills Abel, alluding to this, and the Blood of Jesus, the author writes that the blood of Jesus Christ speaks of better things than the blood of Abel.
What would Abel’s blood have spoken of? We get a reference from Genesis that the blood cried out from the earth. Possibly for vengeance? For Justice? We can only assume. But we have a clarity on what the blood of Jesus cries out for. It’s for saving you and me.
The noted preacher Charles Spurgeon gives an insight on this in one of his sermons. He says like this, “The blood of Abel spoke to God long before Cain spoke. Cain was deaf to the voice of his brother’s blood, but God heard it. Sinner, long before you hear the blood of Jesus, God hears it, and spares your guilty soul. Long before that blood comes into your soul to melt you to repentance, it pleads for you with God.
It was not the voice of Cain that brought down vengeance, but the voice of Abel’s blood; and it is not the cry of the sinner seeking mercy that is the cause of mercy, it is the cry of that blood of Jesus!”
How true! Even before a sin was committed by us, there was a provision for us for forgiveness of that sin on that cross. I like to put it this way, even before the concept of guilt and punishment originated in the mind of Adam and Eve, there was forgiveness in store for them and for us. King David, beautifully writes about this, before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
So what does this provision entail? And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.
Coming to think of this, just because Aaron’s son offered an incense with strange fire, they were struck dead, and when the Ark started to fall over and a man tried to hold it he was struck dead. The high priests entered this place once a year with chains in their legs.
Such is the provision available for each one us. To be made HOLY! To be made like HIM! To come to the throne with utmost confidence in His blood! Queen Esther asked Mordecai to fast and pray lest she should perish for entering the King’s presence without his call, yet hear we have a provision and a red carpet to come to His presence.
Dears, let us throw off all the sins that shackles us, and find the power in His blood. His blood is sufficient.
Let me end this with the question that Abraham asked God, “Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
We see many evils in the world, just last week the world was shocked by a gang rape of a 16 year old girl by 30+ men in Brazil. And we have many terrorist outfits, “Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
Yes, the eternal Judge, the Ancient of Days, will do the right thing. He never fails. Making us holy and righteous priests through His blood, while we were miserable failures was what is called the “Righteousness of God.”
He does what is right in His time! May God bless You.
