In His word
Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to Your word
(Psalms 119:37)
In the beginning, The Lord God commanded man, “you are free to eat from any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Now the serpent came to Eve and enquired about what God had said to man. The serpent was craftier and it started to speak against God’s command. It convinced Eve that whatever God said was a lie and told her, “when you eat from it you will not die but your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When Eve believed in the serpent’s lie, she saw that the fruit was pleasing to her eyes and so she took a step to break God’s command and she ate the fruit which God commanded her not to eat.
Beloved, God has given you so many commandments to follow, which would drive you in correct direction towards God. All the commandments of God given to you and me are out of God’s Love for us. If you rest in God’s Love you will follow His commands. The Bible tells us, “If you love Me, you will follow My Commands.” Satan always tries to break the love that you have on God. Satan always lies against God’s word. He will try to convince you against God’s word and to break God’s commandment and to sin against God.
When you sin against God, you will be separated from God’s presence. This is what happened when Eve and Adam sinned against God. They were driven out from God’s presence and they were thrown outside the Garden of Eden. Beloved even today if satan shows worthless things pleasing to your eyes, and whatever lies he may bring to you, stand firm in the word of God, because God never lies. His words are true.
King David says, “Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word” (Psalm 119:37). Even David, the King of Israel prays to God to preserve his life with His word so that he would turn his eyes from worthless things. Cling on to the word of God anytime or in any situation of your life. This will help you to stay in God’s presence and to keep your eyes away from the unworthy things of the world.
Jesus said, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.” Jesus tell us to see the good through His word, that your whole body will be full of God’s light and you will walk in His ways. Darkness will never get into you when you hold on to the word of God.
Beloved, today I encourage you to live by God’s word and His commands, so that you can fix your eyes on Jesus’ face alone. His Glory will shine upon you wherever you go. Amen.
Prayer
Dear Lord, I thank you for all your commands you have given me. Help me to follow all your commands, Lord. Turn my eyes from all unworthy things; bless me to stay as always in Your presence, Lord.
In Jesus name, Amen.
