The Blessed Woman

June 26, 2015

Many times we wonder how to praise a woman! A woman is always remembered for her virtues. The Holy Bible among other things has devoted a whole chapter (Proverbs 31) praising the qualities of a virtuous woman. The most admired qualities are: “Strength and honour (are) her clothing; She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue (is) the law of kindness; A woman (that) feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

The word “virtue” is a more misunderstood term in society. The word “virtue” literally means “moral excellence” the antonym being “vice”. Good virtues bring abundant blessing. But what are the challenges faced by a virtuous woman of today?

The (imprisoned) woman of yester years has been replaced by a more liberated woman of today. Her role as an obedient wife, a faithful daughter-in-law and an ever loving mother in a male dominant joint family system of the past has been replaced by an economically and socially independent, liberated and elite woman of today who would go as high as president of a country, CEO and accredited professionals even a daring fighter pilot.

(Material) development always comes with associated risks and imponderables. Occupational hazards, explosion of communication devices enabling 24×7 connectivity, absence of elders at home in a nuclear family coupled with unfettered purchasing power available through mobiles have brought more ills to the user than giving a sense of joy.

The blitzkrieg of information circulated through SMS and other social media platforms has pulled more and more young women into misery. Communication technology leaves a blazing inerasable tail of record of events. Many times things done out of an inquisitive young mind more often out of repetitive provocation by a friend or a neighbor or an unknown netizen is a sole reason for broken families, quarrels and mutual distrust among the young families of today.

How can a woman be virtuous and true to herself in such a situation? Jesus said, “I am the way the truth and the life” (John 14:6). Jesus Christ lived an exemplary life of a virtuous man and set an example in everyday living. But He is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient God. Jesus can give the required moral strength and courage to you to be a virtuous and true woman any day under any living circumstances.

How does God honour a virtuous woman? The Holy Bible says, “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband” (Proverbs 12:4). How does God honour a husband of a virtuous woman? The Holy Bible further says, “Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land” (Proverbs 31:23). Be a blessed woman.

Prayer:

Lord, give us the courage and strength to be truthful to You and be virtuous. Free us and protect us from the wily tentacles of the devil who is wandering like a roaring lion through the various social and technological portals of today. Our Father in heaven imbibe and pour the spirit of wisdom in our hearts for us to lead a happy contended and wholesome life in Christ.

In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
