Blessings of Hearing God’s voice

April 24, 2015

Revelation 19:3-7

[3] Once more they cried out, “Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”

[4] And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!”

[5] And from the throne came a voice saying, “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great.” The Marriage Supper of the Lamb

[6] Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.

[7] Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready;

The above verses give an insight on the voice of God and the voice of the hosts of heaven.

John the divine, as he had the vision could not really describe in one word the voice that he was hearing in the vision. This is the uniqueness of God. God and His features or His characters cannot be defined or described in one word. John first says, he hears a voice of cry, then a voice of great multitude, then a voice like many waters and then he says like thunder. Even the great King David had a similar experience and records it in psalms 29 verses 3-4

[3] The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over many waters.

[4] The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. (Psalms 29:3-4 ESV)

Here also, David says that he heard God’s voice as waters and that it thunders.

Why is it important to hear the voice of God?

  1. To know God better, as it is very important to grow in relationship with God. Once you know more and more about a person, only then you have a deeper relationship with that person. When we get to know God more we can easily please Him and lead a life growing in relationship every day which will turn out to be an everlasting and ever growing relationship with the Lord Jesus.
  2. To enjoy His presence more. Why could Jesus pray for long hours without break? Why cannot we spend more time praying? A saint of God said so, “prayer is a communication, which means it is a dialogue and not a monologue.” Prayer is a dialogue which means, it’s a two way interaction. You speak God listens and then God speaks and you listen. What joy would this bring to our prayer lives!
  3. To know His will. Many of us want to know God’s will over our lives. Which course should I choose, which job should I choose of the two, or which person should I marry and so many other questions. My dearest brother sister, let me share to you a small incident that blessed my life because of a person who could hear God’s voice. I have a good friend named Wesley, and once when I was going through confusions of deciding over some major choices and at the same time I had to get some important documents signed by the officials of my country, I was deeply stressed and was not able to make bold decisions. In this time, I had to travel from one city to another city to get some of my documents cleared, so my friend Wesley rode me to the bus stand and I was in the bus and he was standing outside near my window. Just fleeting seconds before the bus left, he spoke something through the window, those words were “John, I prayed for you and I heard a voice saying ‘season of miracles’, so don’t worry”. I smiled and bid him a bye as the bus began moving. From the next morning I began witnessing miracles after miracles and amazingly all my problems disappeared in no time.

When you hear God’s voice, it not only blesses your life, but the life of your dear ones too. You can know the will of God in the lives of others whom you care about. That one word gave strength to me, and after every miracle my faith began to grow and multiply. When we hear a word from God and you see it happen it gives us the assurance that God is with us and it multiplies our faith without measures.

  1. To understand the bible better. The apostle of faith, Smith Wigglesworth once said, “many read their bible in Hebrew and in English, I read it in the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit is our teacher. He is the one who teaches the bible in the most perfect way. Let me give a small example. Mathew 18:8 the bible says [8] And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. I recently heard that some people cut their hands because they sinned and wanted to obey this verse. Did Jesus really mean and ask us to cut off our hands and feet? Why did not Peter cut his tongue when he realised that he denied Jesus? Why did not John cut off this foot when he realised that he left Jesus and ran from the garden of Gethsemane? My dearly beloved we must read the bible with the help of the Holy Spirit to have better understandings of the scriptures.

This is very important as your life is hidden in the bible. God’s word in the Spirit can break and bind anything hindering you (psalms 29:5).

[5] The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon. (Psalms 29:5 ESV)

God’s word is the real power.

Let us long to hear Jesus more. Amen

Prayer

Dear Lord,

Fill us with your spirit to overflowing capacity so that we may hear your voice clear and sound. Let me lead a successful life hearing you and obeying you.

In Jesus name,

Amen
