The power of a Woman
[13] A copy of what was written was to be issued as a decree in every province, being publicly displayed to all peoples, and the Jews were to be ready on that day to take vengeance on their enemies.
[14] So the couriers, mounted on their swift horses that were used in the king’s service, rode out hurriedly, urged by the king’s command. And the decree was issued in Susa the citadel.
[15] Then Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal robes of blue and white, with a great golden crown and a robe of fine linen and purple, and the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced.
[16] The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honour.
[17] And in every province and in every city, wherever the king’s command and his edict reached, there was gladness and joy among the Jews, a feast and a holiday. And many from the peoples of the country declared themselves Jews, for fear of the Jews had fallen on them. (Esther 8:13-17 ESV)
The above verses show how the decree from the king made a Jewish man named Mordecai walk in great honour and dressed in kingly apparels and how he was set next to the king in power.
Who was this Mordecai? He was the compassionate relative of an orphan girl named Esther. Mordecai adopted Esther and brought her up as his own daughter. This is all we can find about Mordecai’s life in the book of Esther. But is that all about him?
Let us have a deeper insight on the life of Mordecai and who he really represents. The Jewish man Mordecai in the Old Testament in the book of Esther represents The Jewish man Jesus in the New Testament. Mordecai was a prophetical symbol or a prophetical representation of the life of the Lord Jesus.
There are lots of evidences of the life of Mordecai representing the Lord Jesus, but we are going to see just a few lines from the book of Esther that show us how Jesus is hidden in the life of Mordecai.
Let us take the above verses one by one and bring the hidden out.
[13] A copy of what was written was to be issued as a decree in every province, being publicly displayed to all peoples, and the Jews were to be ready on that day to take vengeance on their enemies.
The copy of the decree which in the New Testament is the gospel of the Lord Jesus is to be issued in every city, and preached publicly to all people and the children of God wait to take vengeance on the devil and his troop on a particular day.
[14] So the couriers, mounted on their swift horses that were used in the king’s service, rode out hurriedly, urged by the king’s command. And the decree was issued in Susa the citadel.
The courier is the gospel and the swift horses the preachers in God’s service are supposed to move fast and preach the gospel to the ends of the earth as per our Lord’s command.
[15] Then Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal robes of blue and white, with a great golden crown and a robe of fine linen and purple, and the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced.
The above verse is where Mordecai is honoured and comes out to His people and the whole city rejoices. Here Mordecai becomes a prophetical representation of the coming or the return of the Lord Jesus in power and great glory from heaven.
Hidden Jesus in Mordecai’s life in the above verse
| Mordecai | Jesus |
| Then Mordecai went out from presence of the king | The Lord Jesus comes from Heaven to the earth (Rev 19:11-14) |
| in royal robes of blue and white | blue and white represents that He is coming for judgement in Holiness, and the white robes also represents his armies that come with Him (Rev 19:14) |
| with a great golden crown | Lord Jesus is sitting in the right hand of power with a golden crown (Rev 14:14) |
| and a robe of fine linen and purple |
fine linen represents righteousness (Rev 19:8), linen and purple represents the richness and the royalty of the Lord Jesus (luke16:19) |
| and the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced. | The people will rejoice at their King’s return |
[16] The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honour.
The above verse shows that the people of the Lord will rejoice and receive light, gladness, joy everlasting and honour to be in the presence of God for ever, for eternity.
[17] And in every province and in every city, wherever the king’s command and his edict reached, there was gladness and joy among the Jews, a feast and a holiday. And many from the peoples of the country declared themselves Jews, for fear of the Jews had fallen on them. (Esther 8:13-17 ESV)
The 17th verse has an important connection with the 14th verse. It is a continuation of the decree reaching the people throughout the kingdom which was sent from the king in the 14th verse. In the 14th verse it says the decree was made in Susa (the city where the king dwelt) which represents the command of the Lord Jesus to preach the gospel which was first given to His disciples in Jerusalem. Though the decree was made in Susa it travelled throughout the kingdom, likewise thought the command at Jerusalem, the gospel should be taken throughout the world. In verse 17, we see that where ever the decree reached there the Jews rejoice and were glad. In the same way only when the gospel of the Lord Jesus reaches a city only then the people will have the true joy and gladness. The verse also adds that many became Jews, which means many who do not know Christ will accept Him and live for Him and the fear of the Jews fell on the other people which normally happens when the church grows in the Spirit of God (Acts 5:11).
One man Mordecai brings freedom, deliverance, joy and gladness to thousands of his people, still the Holy Spirit has called the name of the book as “Esther”. Even though, Mordecai is the man chosen to represent the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit wants to show the importance of the woman who obeyed the voice of Mordecai in all her ways.
Now what has this to do with you? You might be a house wife, a teacher or in any job, may be a widow, but do you know you have the power to change lives?
In the same book of Esther, chapter 3 and verse 14, the same king had sent a decree to destroy the Jews and kill Mordecai. But what happened between 3:14 and 8:14 is the power of Esther. Yes, you have the power to do this.
The above verses in chapter 8 from 13-17 shows the going out of Mordecai from the palace. But before that he had to come in to the palace, which he was restricted from. Until, Esther got him in, Mordecai was at the gates of the palace. If Mordecai has to come in the king’s palace there should be an Esther in the palace who will fast and pray (Esther 3:16). When Jesus had to come in to this world as a baby or as a man to be born, God had an Esther in Jerusalem who devoted her life to fasting and praying for Jesus to be born (Luke chapter 2 verse 36 – 38). Her name was Anna. Mordecai needed an Esther to come in. Jesus needed an Anna to come in to the world. Only after Mordecai came in he was going out in great honour and kingly apparels. The first coming of the Lord Jesus is finished and Anna had finished her work in sincerity. Now, the second coming of the Lord Jesus is at hand, do you want to be the Esther to welcome him? Start praying. But as you see the sequence of the verses 13-17 in Esther chapter 8, the decree is sent to all people through all means and only then Mordecai walks out of the king’s presence. First the gospel must be preached to all people by all means and then comes the return of the Lord Jesus. Will you be an Esther for this generation? You can change the lives of people from one place kneeling down and setting yourself to prayers. Begin to pray, be a queen in His kingdom. You are called to be a QUEEN. Isn’t it wonderful?
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus,
I accept my call and thank you for choosing me to be a queen in your kingdom. Fill me with your Spirit that I may bring grace into the lives of the people in abundance. Let my life change from today.
Amen.
