March Post – Secret Place of the Most High
After the death of Jesus Christ the disciples were waiting in Jerusalem with one accord for the time that their Master Jesus Christ had promised. The time when the Comforter will arrive. Those were really hard times because the Romans and the Jewish High Priests were strong-willed in suppressing the followers of Jesus. Fear, confusion, uncertainty, anxiety were all that filled the hearts of the disciples. Since the time when they met Jesus, they never were in such situation. The hardest part of these moments was the absence of Jesus. But as they gathered together in one place and in one accord, there came the time of the Lord.
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2: 1 – 4.
As the Spirit of the Lord was hovering over them, all the fear, uncertainty and anxiety that were in them seemed to have fled. The joy, ultimate and unending had filled them already. They felt Jesus, in a much closer way than when Jesus was walking with them in this world. Their feeble faith had gained strength from above.
All of us are longing for this experience of the day of Pentecost. To be a part of this glorious Pentecost one should remember the time that Jesus had spent with the disciples in an Upper Room, the night before the day he was crucified. Though Jesus was with them on that day, the hearts of the disciples were confused and at the verge of despondence. Jesus was not normal. Few days back He told the disciples “Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles. And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him. Mark 10: 33 – 34”. Adding to these, Jesus started washing the feet of His disciples which made their hearts heavier than before. He is not finished yet. As they sat down to eat, Jesus said, “Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. Matthew 26: 21”. With all the pain in his heart and tears yet to overflow, John, lying on Jesus’ bosom, would have wanted a place to hide his face and cry. With a confused mind Peter would have fixed his eyes on to Jesus’ face, eagerly waiting for His next word. So should have been the other disciples. Words of Jesus and His unusual acts made the hearts of the disciples heavier and heavier. The whole city of Jerusalem was in peace waiting for the Passover, but this upper room. Nobody’s heart was in the supper.
After a few moments of silence of Jesus, which really seemed a million moments for the disciples, Jesus took the bread and wine and spoke the words of His lifetime, which really are the words of Life.
“Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is My body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26: 26 – 28”
In the life of the disciples with Jesus for more than three years, this moment should have been the most blessed moment of all time. Because it was meant only for them. Jesus invited them to partake in the sacrifice of the Lord. What could be the blessing that is needed more than this!
And now indeed it is for all of us to partake in the sacrifice of the Lord. The veil was torn and the door opened through the blood of Jesus for us to enter His holy presence with boldness to commune with Jehovah. Eat His body. Drink His blood. In Him you will live. How glorious will it be to have your passion and perseverance focused on the secret place of the Most High, where you will take part in His sacrifice!!! Amen. God bless you.
