His truth endureth to all generations

July 2, 2023

Greetings to all our dear brothers and sisters in Christ. It is the dawn of yet another month. The dear Lord has been truthful and carried us all through the first half of the year. He,  who has been with us in the past is truthful enough to carry us forward : for ever ! The Lord says : “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5) These days,  may the Lord specially bless our youth with His living waters and may His anointing flow from them and fill the world…..

In Economics we used to study about the satiability of “wants”. With the kind of logistics available today, satiability is advanced to 24 x 7 !  More easier to cater to our heart’s desire than ever before…However, there are certain “quests” which haunt us right from our childhood till today for which answers elude us ! One such is the quest for “truth”. Right from our Sunday School days, we have so many questions which haunt us despite our academic, mental and spiritual progress. For example, why should good people suffer ? Why there is poverty ? Why evil exists ? Why apparently bad people flourish and good people are subjugated ? Same questions that have haunted  our fore fathers generations on……  When our children ask, many times we end up fumbling for the “right” answers acceptable to them. Great Philosophers and thinkers of ester years are slowly becoming an extinct species now,  with the sweeping advancement in science and technology. Newtonian chair Professor and Physicist of our times,   Stephen Hawking once said : “Philosophy is dead with  advancement in Science which provides answers to many questions where Philosophy had failed ”. But as we know,  even  great Scientist like Albert Einstein called “spooky” about what is now  known as the quantum entanglement. Scientific theory  fails when it comes to the action at  smallest quantum particle level or  of very large bodies like how galaxies or mega Stars behave. The “correct” time disappears in your wrist watch as you start travelling by a jet plane. Three dimensional space disappears as you move out to outer space. And generations of people come and go asking the same questions like before and move out into oblivion……

Recently as I was reading Psalm 100 , which is one of the most read , suddenly I stopped at the last verse : For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations (Psalm 100:5).  We read that His “mercy” is everlasting, but His truth ? Even  a great administrator like Pontius Pilate was baffled to ask the famous quote : Quid est   veritas ? “ ( What’s the truth ?) in response to Jesus. But his next action is astonishing :  Without waiting for an answer, he declared  “ I find in Him no fault at all”, washed his hands off and refused to condemn Jesus.

Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. (John 18:37). For generations, jewish people believed that the Messiah will  come and redeem them from all their miseries. Old testament is full of prophecies of the coming  “Messiah” , the Redeemer. When Jesus came and performed many miracles, many believed that He is the Messiah and He will bring an end to the alien rule and they tried to even crown Him as their King !   This Is what many understood when Jesus started preaching about “The Lord’s Kingdom”. Even His disciples were so excited for the day of redemption as to what positions they may hold with Jesus. Finally all this “myth” and expectations were scatted when Jesus was crucified and died on the cross. Everyone thought “ this is the end of the story of a good man !”.

But the Lord thought otherwise. It was on the cross that redemption came : not only for the Jews, but for the entire mankind. Death was won over with His resurrection. From the life of compliance to the Mosaic covenant, God’s people came into the New Covenant, much tougher, but made possible by “faith” and trust in the Lord. Without our knowledge, we are made new in Christ. The Holy  Bible says :17”Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (II Corinthians 5:17).

17 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. (Genesis 17:1). This chapter is full of the Lord’s promise for the generations to come, when in fact, by all earthly logic impossible to happen going by Abraham and Sarai’s  advanced age. Read Chapter 18 of Deuteronomy about His truth. He is the loving Father. And an Impartial Judge. I think that is one single truth we have to keep in mind while considering all the unanswered questions raised in the beginning of this message. This is the reason why the Messiah had to come, suffer on the cross, die and rise again.

Jesus is The TRUTH.

 Jesus said :

I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.         (John 14:6).

I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

(John 11:25)

Jesus is “The Truth”. Hold on to Him in faith. Live a good life in Him. In Jesus.

Because His truth endureth for generations.

Our generations will be blessed.
