Walk before Me

December 9, 2022

My dear youth in Christ., I greet you all in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I am delighted to reach you through this column.

In case I ask you a question as to how many of you are still happy and joyful as you were when you were little children, then I may get more responses in the negative. Some of you may say, the Lord who heard and fulfilled all my desires in my childhood  is now silent many times….You may even wonder as to whether the Lord heard your prayers at all ! You feel exhausted when there is a long time lag in getting your supplications fulfilled in your life. One my even be led to think as to why it is like this only for him while many others have seamless way of achieving their goals.

Long time ago, there was a man of God. He abandoned everything in his native place as the Lord told him  and was a  sojourner in strange far off lands for a long time, waiting for the Lord’s promises to be fulfilled in his life. There was a time when after waiting for many years and becoming old, the Lord spoke to him and comforted him:

16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.  ( Genesis 13:`16 )

Days and years rolled on. But still nothing happened. The Lord spoke to him again :

15 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.  ( Genesis 15:1-3 )

Even though God comforted him and strengthened him, Abraham listened to the counsel of his wife Sarai and begot Ishmael. The word of God came to him again:

17 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.  ( Genesis 17:2 )

The mighty Lord asked him to be perfect and walk before Him in righteousness.  We see parents asking their ward to walk before them whenever they are out in the streets. This is to always to remain in their sight for protection. Similarly, we should always live our lives in the presence of God and in His righteousness.  Any backtracking from the sight (presence) of the Lord may lead to digressing from the path and falling in sin. Today also the same Lord who spoke to Abraham is speaking to you in your heart to remain in His presence and be faithful, waiting  at His feet. The Lord is a faithful God and He will fulfil his promise in His time without fail. Our Lord is a covenant keeping God. He will part the sea or move mountains to fulfil His promise in your life. So be joyful and listen to His voice. May the Lord bless you all.
