The Power of the tongue

December 1, 2022

My dear beloved in Christ, I greet you all in the matchless name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. All glory and honour to Him alone.

The almighty God has conferred some power and authority on us. One of these is the power of the tongue.

20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.  ( Proverbs 18 : 20,21 )

The word of God warns us that we shall be satisfied with the fruits of our mouth. The Lord has given us the power to choose between life and death through  our own words  Whatever we speak through our tongues, we shall taste its fruits. Then how can one guard his tongue ?

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit..   (Proverbs 15 : 4 )

We should possess a healthy tongue to taste the fruits of the tree of life.

16 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.  ( Proverbs 16 : 1 )

If we could guard our tongues, and speak only the word of God, rather than pour out our own thoughts, it will protect us from all evil. Such words of wisdom would bind us and our people in God. When we lean on the wisdom of God, it will change the nature of our tongue and words.   God’s wisdom will  now be  well pronounced through us.

15 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.  ( Proverbs 15:1-2)

When our tongue itself becomes like the tree of life, then we shall be first fulfilled by its strength and be fruitful to others.

In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. ( Revelations 22:2 )

Word of God says the leaves of the tree of life will heal nations. We shall always guard our tongues and protect ourselves by avoiding being caught by our own words.

Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.  ( Proverbs 6 :2)

The pharisees approached Jesus with the wily intention of finding fault with Him through His words :

15 Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17 Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax[a] to Caesar or not?”

18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19 Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, 20 and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”

21 “Caesar’s,” they replied.

Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

22 When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.

(Mathew 22:15-22)

Word of God says they left amazed at His wisdom and authority that no one could find any fault with Him. May the Lord bless us too with such a wisdom in our words.

Prayer:

May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart

 be pleasing in your sight,

Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Amen
