The Good Coach
Once there was a small boy who wanted to become a successful athlete. Just like every successful athlete needs a coach, this little boy had a good coach too to guide him through.
The aim of the boy was to win and the aim of the coach was to help him, teach him, correct him, encourage him to undergo very hard and heavy training and finally see the boy stand on that victory stand.
Every day the coach made it to the training grounds even before the boy arrived and he never compromised for any reasons if the boy arrived late. The practice was harder than the boy expected. The boy was advised to keep away from certain food that he previously enjoyed and in addition to all that, even the weekends got worse than his weekdays with extended training. By this time, the boy started to find ways to quit and finally expressed his feelings to the coach. Although the coach understood how difficult the boy felt now at this moment, as a good coach, he always reminded himself of the first few passion-filled words that came out the boy’s mouth on the first day they met which made the good coach never to give up on that boy.
As the days passed by, the boy developed a good stature and a well disciplined life. Now the same training was far easier to the boy than what it used to be. Although the coach was still stern in his training and had the same rough voice, the same coach who once looked like a villain now looked like someone closer than a friend and the boy after winning many levels in the event was through to the finals now.
As he was waiting for the final race to start, one of his competitors introduced himself and offered him a can of coke but even as he was about to drink, the coach snatched it and said that he could have it after the match. Although disappointed, the boy was very much used to such responses from the coach and the boy quietly moved on. Even as he was going to the running track, the coach reminded him to tie up his loosened shoe lace. Now the boy started running, it was the finals and the air was filled with thrill. The boy who took the lead started to feel faint and he began to lose his hope of winning but suddenly out of the so many voices, he heard one familiar sound that said you can win. Though the boy couldn’t see anyone, he perceived that it was the voice of his coach and that the coach was running alongside him outside the track.
The boy won the game and hardly could believe he did it. The pain of the sacrifices he had to make in past, now had become invaluable compared to this joy of victory. And deep in his heart he knew that he could not have done this without that one good coach. With no words to express the boy hugged the coach with tears of thankfulness and the coach threw his arms around him and proudly led him to the victory stand and stood there to see the boy being crowned. For this joy, the coach did it all.
John 16: 13
However when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come.
John 14: 26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
The Lord Holy Spirit is the good coach sent for you. His joy is to help you, see to that you win the battles and the challenges of this life and finally admire you as you stand on the last day as a victor receiving the crown from Jesus the forerunner. He might seem to be strict because He is serious about you winning and He is least bothered of your interest that has every potential to pull you down from receiving your heavenly crown. In the middle of the journey you might say, ‘this is too much for me’ and at such times, He feels hurt but He goes a step ahead reminding to Himself the day when you first said you needed His guidance with a desperate heart. He will not just prepare you for that last day but He will run with you till the end. When thousands of voices rise up to say you will fail, He will remind you the truth that you can overcome by the blood of the lamb and by the word of your testimony. When the world praises you even when you are on the wrong path, the Holy Spirit will remind you and firmly convict you of your mistake. His aim is not to please you but make your life pleasing in the sight of God.
Will you just one more time call upon Him and let Him know you need Him?
Dear Lord Holy Spirit,
I confess that I have often tried to run away from your guidance and now I come back to you asking for your forgiveness. May I be a child who will always be obedient to you and that I will win my race to receive the crown. I thank you for your selfless love.
Dear Lord, I need you, In Jesus name. Amen
