STAY CONNECTED TO THE ROCK

February 1, 2018

Hello, little children! Greetings to all of you in the name of our dear Lord Jesus! Hope you are doing great by God’s grace.

Let me start with a small story. Have you ever been fishing?  Did you fish standing on the shore or the boat? Well, let me introduce to you a little boy named Dennis who went fishing.

Dennis loved fishing and his favorite fishing spot was a small river near his home. There was a spot in the river that was very wide and the water would flow very slowly. Dennis would stop his boat there and start fishing. Now, there was a rock in the river not very far from the shore, and Dennis would tie his boat to the rock with a rope to keep his boat from drifting away. Then he would start fishing.

One fine day fish didn’t seem to be biting. A couple of hours went by. Dennis got tired and fell asleep. While he was asleep the rope somehow got untied from the rock and the boat stared drifting downstream. It drifted slowly and then the farther it went the faster it drifted.

Just as the boat hit a big rock Dennis woke up. By the time he woke up it was too late, the boat turned upside down. Fortunately, Dennis hung onto the inside of the boat drove downstream and caught hold of a sandbar to save himself from drowning.

From that day Dennis made sure that his boat was tightly tied to the rock with the rope. He didn’t ever want to drift away.

Dear children just like in this story our boat of life is safe until it is tied to the rock, our Lord. The Bible says in psalm 94:22 “my God is the rock of my refuge“. It is safe to cling onto the Lord always.

But, how do we connect to Him? The rope which connects us to God is prayer. It is the only way by which we can hold onto the rock, Jesus. Just like in the story lack of prayer drives us away from God. Life becomes difficult when we move away from God. So,  dear little children the only way to stay safe and to guard ourselves from the snare of the devil is to spend time at the feet of God, just as Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 “pray without ceasing“.

So, pray every day since it is the only rope that keeps you connected to the rock, our Lord.

Let’s Pray:

Father God, we don’t want to get drifted away from You. So please help us to remember to pray every day so that we can stay connected to you, our rock of salvation. In Jesus name, amen.
