A Helpless God!
“….He went out with His disciples over the brook Kidron, where there as a garden, which He and His disciples entered.” John 18:1
Greetings to all my precious friends in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
How many of you have ever felt helpless, at any point of time with none beside you to help you?
Well this reminds me of a true incident that happened years ago. There was this little one year old left under the care of her relatives, her mother miles away dying of a terrible disease. The little babe used to cry helplessly longing for a moment to lie on her mother’s breast to hear her heartbeat, with helpless relatives surrounding her to pacify her. The doctor finally pronounced that if the little kid is going to continue her crying then she’ll probably be alive just a few more days. After trying out various means to stop her cry, her caretakers finally decided to put her in a dark room which would cause the baby to fear and hence stop her cry. And finally they did.
When I came across this incident, it took me to another place where a Person whom I knew of so well was in a similar situation. Abandoned, left alone in the dark garden to be delivered in to the hands of murderers for nothing He had done. It wasn’t His only description, my dear Bible tells me that He was the One who created all of what we ever see (John 1:3, Hebrews 11:3), the One who holds the seas in the palm of His hands (Isaiah 40:12), the One who calls out the stars by name (Psalms 147:4), the One who has set the pathway for the sun (Psalms 19:4), the One who was before the beginning and the One who will be after the end (Isaiah 41:4). An immortal One (1 Timothy 1:17), now helpless, awaiting death, in a garden pleading to His Father, miles away in whose bosom He used to rest in peace.
Yes, dear friend this JESUS whom I’m talking about, God Almighty about whom the Bible mentions that, it was for Him and through Him and to Him ALL things were made (Romans 11:36), left helpless now in a lonely garden with no one beside Him to share His sorrow. He suffered like no one ever has in this whole wide world from the beginning of creation until eternity because the Bible says that He alone was the perfect sacrifice, who died on the cross for you and for me and for all who ever existed on planet earth.
This took me back to the story of the little baby who eventually did stop crying, after she had been put in the dark room, with absolutely no one beside her, dawning light on me that it was not because of the darkness or fear did the little one stop crying but because the God of Gethsemane was right there beside her on whose bosom she took rest. (To finish off, the rest she got then, from the God who had suffered for her, has brought her a long way, twenty now and a medical professional herself helping many.)
Dear friend, I know what you’re thinking! Can somebody ever have such a wild imagination as this!!?? I assure you what happened in the little baby’s life is true because my Bible tells me, “For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted He is able to aid those who are tempted.” (Hebrews 2:18) Today if the various situations you are stuck in make you feel dry and if the enemy is lying to you saying that you’re left alone and your end is near, let me tell you with the greatest cry with which I can, YOU ARE NEVER ALONE. A God, without whom nothing is, became helpless so YOU COULD LIVE. In your entire lifetime be assured that you will not face anything alone. Somebody’s already gone through all that you ever think that others will never be able to understand.
If you’re the person I’m talking about then here’s your challenge. Pray with me today this simple prayer on your knees to the God who knows you, every molecule of you! He’s ready to give you the peace you long for. You will sure have rest at His bosom. Amen.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus,
I know I’m a sinner who is not worthy to receive what You are longing to give me. I cry out to you Lord from the dry situation and the wilderness I’m in. Please listen to me Lord and touch me today, let my life change to be a pleasing aroma to you. I know I was neither called nor chosen but made Lord, for You. Speak to me today, I will hear. In Jesus’ name, amen.
