IT IS FINISHED
To meditate on the “Cross” gives peace and revelation any time of the year. The last but one saying on the cross, has much to offer to us, that most often, the best part of it, redemption and hope it gives to everyone is not understood in the real sense.
The word “finished”, other than meaning a literal end, is one of the great accomplishments, achieving the goal. The Greek word “Tetelestai” also meant in the days of Christ, “paid in full” in the commerce world. Yes, Jesus did pay the full price on the Cross to redeem us from our sins infirmities and diseases.
“But He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our inequities, the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by his stripes, we are healed (Isaiah 53: 5)
The Power of sin, satan and death were crushed under His feet by Jesus on the cross. Jesus said to His disciples: “Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10: 19).
The power and authority given to His disciples were equally conferred on all of us on the cross by paying the “debt in full”. How was the debt paid? He humbled Himself. “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him” (Isaiah 53: 10). He was scourged (Matthew 27: 26), beaten (Luke 22: 63-64), spit upon (Matthew 27:30), mocked at (Matthew 27:26-29) and stripped naked (Matthew 27:35). The Holy Bible says, “He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth” (Isaiah 53:7).
Jesus said, “You are my witnesses” (Luke 24: 28). The LORD has conferred the same power and authority over anyone who repents for his sins and accepts Jesus as his personal saviour (Mark 16: 16-18).
In our daily lives, however we see sometimes the power of darkness manifesting, and the so called serpents and scorpions inflicting damage. For example, the sting of a venomous scorpion causes great pain, inflammation, some kind of stripes in the body same as that of scourge (I Kings 12: 11) and sometimes the venom is so painful that the person seeks death but does not die (Revelation 9: 5-6). Compare this with the travails of life many undergo, many times even a Minister of God. The LORD says, “My grace is sufficient for you. My strength is made perfect in weakness” (II Corinthians 12: 9). Paul boldly declares “Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (II Corinthians 12: 9). “Because He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sickness” (Matthew 8:17, Isaiah 53:4). One has to continue to hope and cling on to dear Lord Jesus and continue to walk in His ways, however difficult it is, to trample snakes and scorpions. Because, the evil is already defeated and crushed on the cross.
So let not your hearts be troubled. Believe and accept Jesus Who alone is the Victor, Redeemer, Saviour and our Lord. If you persist till the end, He will receive you in His joy and in His glory. You can exercise His authority on earth as His own child.
The Holy Bible says, “… Notwithstanding in this, rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10: 20).
Because, it is already finished…
On the cross…
Only for you…
