Pause & Verify the way you are taking

July 28, 2016

One of the things I’ve wanted to do for some time now is take a road trip with my husband. I adore the uncertainty factor and sense of adventure that surrounds a road trip. By uncertainty I mean the idea of setting out on a trip without a destination in mind, plans as to where to stop, how long the trip would take of where it would take us and when we would return. But, dear readers, May I ask how many of us undertake such a journey in our Christian lives? Do we treat Jesus and His church as options for shelter in our lives? Do we take our calling as seriously as we ought to, with the commitment it deserves? I urge you to pause and think if we are wandering away or taking the right path to the Promised Land.

We all know of the journey the Israelites took to the Promised Land. “When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, ‘If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.’ So, God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.” – Exodus 13:17. A journey that they could have taken in 40 days, God led them to take for 40 years for that was His will and plan. At the end of the journey, they were no longer a gathering of bickering slaves but a group of wise warriors of God who were feared by the powerful kingdoms that surrounded them even before they got to their destination.

I urge you sisters, to choose wisely the path that leads to God from among the many that you see before you. It’s not possible to get to the upper floors by getting on a lift which is on its way down. We are surrounded by things in our lives that are designed to mislead us in our journey. In John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. Matthew 7:14 says “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it“. He did not say “a way”, He said “the way” meaning there is no other. So friends let us pray to God everyday asking for His grace to help us choose the right path that leads to Him and eternal life.
