Waiting up on the Lord
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
We in our lives have wanted everything to happen “Instantly”, and so, we have not realized the essence of Waiting. The blessing that we receive in waiting is the New Strength like eagle.
1) Joseph was waiting for 13 years from the age of 17. Though he entered Egypt as a slave, when he waited patiently he was lifted high in Egypt, next to the Pharaoh.
Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warden. Genesis 39:20-21
Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh the king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and travelled throughout Egypt. Genesis 41:46
2) I was silent; I would not open my mouth, for you are the one who has done this. Psalms 39:9
We have to wait patiently and be truthful in our life. The Lord Jesus says in Matthew 5:5, “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” Moses waited 40 days and nights at the feet of the Lord to become a truthful leader. William Carey in his 5 years of ministry saved only one soul who in turn saved 5 lakhs souls. Joseph waited in prison for 2 years as a slave and prisoner. But at the end God lifted him.
You shall be over my house, and according to your command all my people shall do homage; only in the throne I will be greater than you. Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” Then Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand, and clothed him in garments of fine linen and put the gold necklace around his neck. He had him ride in his second chariot; and they proclaimed before him, “Bow the knee!” And he set him over all the land of Egypt. Moreover, Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Though I am Pharaoh, yet without your permission no one shall raise his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.” Then Pharaoh named Joseph Zaphenath-paneah; and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, as his wife. And Joseph went forth over the land of Egypt. Now Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went through all the land of Egypt. Genesis 41:40-46
3) Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him. Isaiah 64:4
The blessings that we receive from the Lord without grumbling are the glorious blessings. When troubles come in our way we look up on the Lord. But when we are blessed we take the blessing in the way as if it had come out of our good deeds, knowledge, skills and luck. But it is the Grace of God. We forget that the blessings are to seek Him more and to use our blessings in His will. When you have failures and when the situations are against you, remember that the Lord has allowed it for a greater blessing.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12
In Genesis 42:36, Jacob tells, “You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is against me!” At this time Jacob was unaware that his son is the king over Egypt. When Joseph no more had the Coat of Many Colours which his father presented him, he thought that his glory had left him. But he did not realize that the Lord had prepared him King’s dress. We often forget that our Lord is reigning alive and we are worrying about this world’s sufferings. And when the Lord bless us and lifts us we have to be like Joseph, grateful and forgiving.
Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. Genesis 45:5
