At the feet of the Lord
Dear Sisters in Christ, Greetings to you in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In the busy schedules of your daily life, to find time to relax is much needed to take care of your body health. Many times you are off from the work to get rid of tiredness or sickness and in such times you even are ready to lose a part of your daily wages. This act of care for the body is very much evident in everyone’s life. No one can neglect this act in their life, the reason being your body is felt by you. When you suffer in hurt and when the blood oozes out of your body, the whole of your body senses react in unison to express the pain. You cannot stop helping your body daily to be safe and secured, most of your safety measures being involuntary. Why do we talk Biology now? These facts of biology brought to my mind some important thoughts of Theology. Man is not just body but God has made him a living soul. When every single man is concerned about the body and its needs, why is the soul forgotten in all the aspects of daily life?
The breath of God made you an immortal living soul which rests in the mortal body made of dust.
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2:7
This soul of yours can find its care, shelter and nourishment only in one place, the feet of the Lord.
1) And there was a woman in the city who was a sinner; and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume, and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. Luke 7:37 & 38
At the feet of Jesus, a soul expresses an act of worship to God. The woman in this passage of the Bible was a sinner and the soul in her desperately longs for the forgiveness from the Lord. When it had reached the feet of Jesus, the soul washed His feet with tears and anointed them with perfume as an act of an involuntary worship. This soul finds its care and shelter at the feet of Jesus which Luke 7:48 says, “And Jesus said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.“
2) Now as they were traveling along, Jesus entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. Luke 10:38 & 39
At the feet of Jesus, a soul is sufficiently supplied with its food which is the word of God. This passage of the Bible tells that Mary was at the feet of Jesus while Martha wasn’t. At the feet of the Lord, a soul finds only the necessary things. But being away from His feet fills a soul with worry and trouble. But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41 & 42
Be sensitive to your soul which is born of the breath of God. May it rest and abide at the feet of the Lord, forever.
