Gracious Love of God
“Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain. Yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye and your cattle and your beasts” 2 Kings 3:17
In the beginning God created the whole universe and He made all kinds of plants, beasts and fowls on the earth. He made earth fit for life and filled it with all forms of life. He finally created man and woman. He saw his creation was very good.
As per the word of God in Genesis 1:27 “so God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them”. God in His abundant love for man was friendly with him and empowered him to command and rule over the world. God permitted man to do what all He liked except to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But man disobeyed the word of God and wounded the loving heart of God. Thus Satan deceived man to commit sin and distanced man from God. But God never fails. He wanted to redeem man from sin. Without shedding blood sin could not be rubbed out. So God gave his only beloved son Jesus to shed blood and do away with Himself on behalf of man’s sin and save the mankind forever. About eight centuries before the birth of Jesus, a God’s man called Isaiah foretold that Jesus would redeem mankind and take them back to the Garden of Eden as glorious as was in the past. Bible says, “But he was wounded for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed”. Isaiah 53:5.
Obeying God’s will, Jesus gave as ransom, His life, body and blood for our redemption. Those who believe and accept shall be healed from their sins, sickness and even beyond have rebirth in Jesus Christ.
Proverbs 20:30 says, “The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.”
As a mother takes medicine to get her infant baby recovered from illness, so Jesus gave away Himself to be punished in order to redeem His beloved people and believers from the illness of Sin. This spirit of unfettered love is expressed well by our great Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar:
Anbilaar Ellaam Thamakkuriyar Anbudaiyaar
Enbhum Uuriyar Pirarkku
It means that a loveless person is a selfish person who treasures everything for himself. But the lovable man does not own anything to himself including his self which he gives to others.
What is True Love? Bible says in Matthew 5:46 “For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the publicans the same?”.
This verse teaches us that if you say that you have true love for others then you should show it to those undeserving people and establish that you are a follower of Christ. If you practice this in your life, you will find how powerful love is. One’s selfless love not only helps him to forgive others but also imparts mental, physical and spiritual healing in them. No other weapon is so powerful than love which could transform any cruel and riotous man into righteous and upright one. Anything impossible is possible only by love.
In Luke 15:21 Bible says, “And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.”
How wonderful! The younger son spent and devoured all his wealth and health within a short period and lost everything that he received as his share from his father. But he could neither spend nor loose the love that he had from his father. So was his father who lost his goods and property by his son but he never lost his love for him. He accepted his repented son with more joy than before.
I would like to define the distinguishing qualities of love comparing with rainfall.

Before it begins to rain the clouds are torn violently with thunder and lighting. |
Jesus suffered and died on the cross to shower his love and blessing on us to redeem us from our sins. |

The pouring water cleans and washes away the rubbish around. |
The shedding blood out of love has cleansed and washed away our sins and all unwanted and ungodly things of the flesh. |

Rain pours down everywhere whether it is hills, plains or valley without any partiality. |
In token of Love the blood of Jesus is sprinkled through Holy Spirit on everybody whether he is good or bad. |

The seeds fell in the downpour would grow to be a fruitful tree and make the land fertile. |
The people who surrendered and accepted His love through Holy Spirit would bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit and make life prosperous. |
|
Rain also helps to grow weeds and thorns but they would be culled in the end by the farmer. |
Love pours on bad people also but in the day of judgement they would be judged by the Master. |
|
Rain water always turns towards the surface of lower gradient and fills it up. |
Love first reaches and touch the most needy and suffering people and spreads to others. |
| A good land which receives the rain water would produce and give the farmer 30 / 60 / 100 folds. |
The redeemed people show God’s love to others and thereby multiply manifold and bring a good harvest to God’s kingdom. |
Jesus, the Son of God obeyed the will of His Father and gave himself as a sin offering, for our iniquities and thus through His everlasting love and with His stripes we are healed from our sickness, sin and curse. Praise the Lord.
