God who expects
Dear in Christ,
Greetings in the name of the loving Lord Jesus Christ. Beloved, we receive a lot of blessings from God in our everyday life. We thank and glorify God for these blessings and it is good. But, at the same time it is important that we know what the same God, who gives us these blessings, expects from us.
- God should be kept higher than the blessings we received
When Abraham was rejoicing over Isaac who was the promise from God, God asked Abraham to offer his son Isaac (Genesis 22:2). Abraham swiftly decided to obey God’s command without even bringing it to the knowledge of Isaac’s mother Sarah. (Genesis 22:10). Sarah might have even hated and left Abraham had he discussed about his plans with her. But as Abraham showed implicit and unquestioned obedience to God, he was honoured and blessed by God without measure (Genesis 22:12,15-18). Yes my beloved, when we put God first in everything we do, God will bless us in an immeasurable way.
- Be careful not to change the blessing into a curse
Israelites grieved God and brought curse on themselves when they made gods (idols) out of same gold they received as a blessing.(Exodus 32:4). God gave Adam his wife Eve as He saw that it was not good for a man to be alone (Genesis 2:18). But Adam disobeyed God wanting to please his wife Eve (Genesis 3:6). Adam grieved God saying that the woman whom God gave him as a blessing made him eat the forbidden fruit. (Genesis 3:12). What was the outcome? Even before Adam could know what blessings God had for him in the Garden of Eden, God chased him out from the garden (Genesis 3:24). We should be obedient to God lest we loose God’s presence forever. When we give more importance for the worldly blessings, we will miss out what God expects us to do. Even though God restores us with all the worldly blessings, we will not be able to regain the relationship we had with God.
- We must know and do the will of God that we should fulfil through the blessings
After knowing through the angel of the Lord that God is going to bless him with a child, we see that Manoah entreated the Lord asking Him, “teach us what we shall do to the child that shall be born?”(Judges 13:8) and “what is the child’s manner of life and what is his mission?”(Judges 13:12) through which he knew the will of God. Yes my beloved, it is important that we should pray earnestly for the blessings we await from the Lord and also ask and know the will of God we should accomplish through the blessings we have received.
Prayer:
Our heavenly Father, make us to hold You higher than everything dear to us. Lead us in the paths of righteousness to enjoy Your blessings. Bless us and reveal us your plans for us to run in Your path and as per Your will.
May God bless us all. Amen.
