Waiting for the Holy Spirit
“Stay in the city (of Jerusalem) until you have been clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:49
Dear sisters, Greetings to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
We are constantly amazed at the heroic acts of great men and women of God, through whom God is able to achieve mighty and powerful testimonies for His name. Particularly during the times of persecution of Christianity, we read about people not willing to give up their faith even in the face of violent and torturous death. Sometimes, I ask myself, how many of the 21st century Christians would keep His testimony in the face of persecution. Or would I be able to keep His testimony and live to His glory if I am faced with the similar setting?
The answer to this is in the book of Acts of the Apostles. Shortly before leaving the earth, Jesus asks His disciples to wait till they receive the Holy Spirit. They wait in the upper room gathered together in prayer when, on the day of Pentecost they receive His power.
Today I want to show you some things that happened on the lives of the disciples after the reception of Holy Spirit.
Wisdom and Revelation: The Jews who had gathered there from every nation, heard their own language being spoken and Peter stands up and explains them about the Spirit with reference to the prophet Joel. Stephen was a man filled with wisdom of God and Holy Ghost, we see that in Acts 6:10 (None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke.) In the world we live, we need the Wisdom and Revelation from the Holy Spirit. We do not know what we are missing till we experience the working of Holy Spirit in our lives.
Transformation: Peter was afraid to confess about Christ to a maiden on the eve of Jesus’ crucifixion, later we see the same man, boldly proclaiming the Gospel to the Jews. The Holy Spirit never leaves us the way we are. We become the salt and light to those around us.
Power of Holiness: This is the most precious change of all. Holy Spirit gives us an aspect of God – Holiness. In Romans chapter 7, we see Apostle Paul struggling with all his might under the power of sin but not able to overcome it. But then Apostle Paul shows a way to overcome it, the Holy Spirit. We need the power of Holiness so much in our lives on this age. With the world trying eternally to satisfy their carnalities we as a bride of Christ should take a stand to remain holy and it can come only when we wait on the Holy Spirit.
Let’s pray that God pours out His Spirit upon all the flesh from high. That we stand as bold as lions to serve God and imitate Him and His nature.
May God bless you.
