The Lost Days

January 6, 2015

It is an amazing wonder to see how fast the wheels of life turn around, years after years and generations after generations…Many of us who are in fifty plus of age would readily agree that not long ago we were little children playing games and not much later, sitting in college, learning, playing and questioning everything around us. Decades roll around and suddenly we find that, we are at the fag end of our careers, our children are grown up and stand on their own, years roll on , we become grand parents and old men. As children and young men and women, we have our own ambitions and dreams. A few turn to be the achievers and a vast majority of us end up as lesser mortals, euphemistically known as the “common man” and end up submerged in daily office routine and family chores. The only pleasure appears to be the endless banter in coffee shops (now replaced by the ever addictive mobile phone) during the evenings with old friends and colleagues.

Recently, one of my classmates who had the dream of touching the stars, called me to say that after three decades of endless career hops, finally he had become what he always wanted to be, the CEO of a fairly big company in the country. It was about 9.30 p.m. when the call came, by which time he was enjoying his brief solitude after dinner. There was this man with a great sense of pride and satisfaction having achieved his childhood vision. I congratulated him for achieving his vision and asked him what happens now that he has achieved his dream ? What next ?…There was a long spell of silence at the other end and finally came the crisp remark “look forward to a happy retired life….”. However, I could feel that I had rekindled some dying embers deep in his mind and his eyes twisting like that of a vision quester piercing into the unknown to see whether he has missed anything at all in his ambition to achieve his career. Whatever be the turns and thrills of life, we have all experienced some level of uncertainty at some point of time or the other ( the same uncertainty principle that haunts quantum physics). Despite our academic , career and family achievements or failures, we always wonder what life has to offer and what it has in its store as each screen is unfolded like that of a kaleidoscope over years.
The Holy Bible says,” Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happenenth even to me; and why was I then more wise ? Then I said in my heart, that this is also vanity. For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man ? as the fool ( Ecclesiastes 2:15,16) (Remember the great Egyptian Boy King who was forgotten and rediscovered after three thousand years !!!)

Is there any way out to connect the missing link ? Is there any purpose at all in our lives ? Or is it only just a random chance that we are born and live and die in a meaningless web of probability. The same questions that had haunted the scientists and philosophers over eons to understand and hypothesize a standard model for universe and life in the past, still baffle us today despite news about “evidence” of “God’s particle”….Is there a way in which we can arrange and shape our lives ? Is there any way we can secure peace and happiness to our children right from their childhood? Dear brother and sister, Jesus is the answer. When we accept Jesus in our lives, our life turns around and we can be happy and contended in all the facets of life, whether we are riding the crests or troughs of life. Because it is said “The steps of the righteous man is ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his ways” ( Psalms 37 : 23). Being in communion with Jesus does not ensure reaching all our childhood ambitions or even career heights or financial prosperity. What this will ensure is peace and happiness equally amidst plenty and in poverty. The Bible says “ Though he (good man) fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand (Psalms 37:24)
Do you feel lost in the wilderness of life, your lingering questions unanswered even after becoming an elder and wise man?
Jesus said “ For the son of man (Jesus) is come to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). Seek Jesus Christ and accept him today as your personal Lord and savior.
