Man after God’s own heart

November 1, 2014

“And when He had removed him, He raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also He gave testimony and said I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after Mine own heart, which shall fulfil all My will” – acts 13:22

(1Samuel 16:7, 13:14 also testify the same)
Though many were truthful to God, why did God testify David as a man after His own heart?
There were 3 secrets in David’s life that pleased God.

      1)       Obedience

“Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and turned not aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.” – 1 Kings 15:5

Whatever the situation might be David obeyed God throughout his life.

      2)       Repentance and acceptance

“But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead; therefore David said unto his servants, is the child dead? And they said, he is dead.
Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.” – 2 Samuel 12:19, 20

(2 Samuel 12:15 to 23)
On hearing, that his child was dead, David anointed himself and went into the house of the Lord and worshipped. With repentance David accepted God’s will. This pleased the Lord.

      3)       Honouring the anointed of the Lord

  1 Samuel 24: 4 to 7
  1 Samuel 26: 7 to 11
  2 Samuel 1: 14 to 16
David feared to stand against the anointed of the Lord though they were his enemies. And also, he stood against those who slew the anointed.

These three secrets made David to become a man after God’s own heart.

In Psalm chapter 26 David speaks about his righteousness. Let us also pray and try to receive the same blessings.
May God help and bless every one of us to live according to God’s desire.

Amen.
